My house is 30 years old and the previous owners had covered up the basement walls with drywall - by attaching 1x2 to the walls and then the drywall to the 1x2s. The drywall had mold on it so I removed to put on new. After removing the drywall I found that the walls had mold on them, so I washed the walls thoroughly with bleach/water, let dry and then applied a coat of waterproofing. There was already a coat on it so I figured one more coat is all that is needed. Also I have been running a dehumidifier down there and it has been pulling out some water and if feels dry down there. But now I have discovered more mold on the basement walls (2 smaller patches). Can you tell me why this is? Is it because there isn't a vapor barrior on the exterior of the basement walls? Is there a way to prevent this so I can finish off the walls with drywall again?
