Venting, or a lack there of, can be a very serious problem. An unvented plumbing system with p-trap assemblies could possibly be vented through these trap assemblies. This creates a siphonage in the trap, and removes the water forcing the trap to lose it's seal. This loss of the trap seal is what allows the rotten egg sewer gas (Hydrogen Sulfide) to escape into the space of the house.
