Bob I had a similar problem with self adhiesiver tiles over the wood floor in my bathroom. We used a solvent , in my case laquer thinner to remove the glue. My suggestion to you would be to go to Home Depot and look at the different types of glue for linoleum and find out what there solvent chemical is. Look for the clean up instructins. My guess is that they will probably be denatured alchohol, aceton or methyle- etheyl-keytone or mehtyline chloride. Those storees have a large section of solvents and there purposes.
