Stain Jamb Transition

I have a somewhat related question on a situation in my house where the trim in the dining room/living room is dark brown oak, and the trim in the hallway and bedrooms area is a lighter reddish oak, the passageway between these rooms is a single doorless jamb. Should I stain the jamb all one color or should I stain it half and half? The house is a 1927 bungalow, which I am trying to restore.
