Sorry for the punt.
While you are waiting for your expert, have a look around
the house to if you can find any wet patches on the walls
ie: down pipe/gutter overflow/damaged drain, look for anything
that may give you reason to think the water may be comming in
Open the windows (if you have any)in the basement, this will
help to move the air and change the climate down there.
Have a look in the basement to see if you have any brown dust
everywhere.
If you haven't, the I'm very happy for you. if you have find that
expert fast, the brown dust realy is spors from the dry rot and its
looking for more food(wood)." Horror stories dont come as good as this"
unless you what me to talk about The death watch beatle or
the house long horn beatle that live in a timber roof
another punt, beatles you can easly get rid of, no problem, its only
the damage they do before they leave.
If you see any holes in the timbers, you will be thinking, "they have gone
in this way. "Wrong," thats where they have come out... ready to start laying
there eggs again.
But thats another story......
