I'm currently finishing and refinishing my oak kitchen cabinets using a water-based stain, with a water-based clear grain filler on that (not sanding sealer, it's a paste I got at Woodworker Supply). Then a few coats of quick drying poly-acrylic followed with a sanding between coats and then a final coat of satin oil-based polyurethane. It's coming out far better than any finish job I've ever done...the problem is that the guy at the hardware store said I can't do this because I'm mixing water based and oil based. All I know is it looks smooth as an Arkansas fishin' hole in May and I can't scratch it with my fingernail. So, with all the professional exerience on the board, what are the rules on mixing the different stains, finishes and etc? Luck, Kizmet
