Our hardwood floors are 8 years old. They are the ubiquitous oak flooring installed by the builders. In the kitchen the finish is pretty well worn off. I am wondering if I can stain overtop of the finish or do they have to be sanded right down. I would like to change the colour. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of changing the finish to a wax. Could you recommend a finish other than polyurethane?
