sorry to bust a dream; but ..... A vintage house is not a serious base for an energy-efficient home without SERIOUS and extensive rebuilding. Such houses had NO insulation and there is not enough sun-power to overcome the WASTE of heat leaving the home. Do a heat estimate of the building at:

Firstly, get the gas bills from the last few years to heat that white elephant. You will find it MUCH less expensive to build a solar home from the start. There have been super-insulated homes built that use NO heat in New Hampshire.
