Here's my situation; my fiance was attempting to regrout the tiles on the floor our shower and wound up knocking a ton of them loose. She decided to pull up the remainder of the tiles (on the floor only) because she had the idea of replacing them with ones of a rougher surface (for safer traction). The pan and the cement mixture atop it are unharmed. She called a 'tile guy' who insisted they would have to pull out the cement and pan, replace it all, and retile both the floor and approximately 1 foot up on each wall of the shower (keep in mind this person hasn't even seen our shower). All for a hefty fee. I'm finding it hard to believe all this is necessary. If the pan and concrete are unharmed, can't I simply go in with new tile and thinset and relay it all? Any assistance is greatly appreciated! I'm flabbergasted...
