I was forced to replace the original manual thermostat in my South Carolina home back in December because of a act of clumsiness rendered it useless.
Anyway, I ponied up for digital programmable on the replacement figuring I could recoup some of the expense in lower Electric Bills.
Boy, was I wrong!
Since December I have had 3 of the highest electric bills in the 6 years I've lived in this house.
I know we've had a cold winter, but that cold? Shouldn't the programmability (I have it programmed for maximum efficiency per specs) have offset the increase in usage a little?
Anyway, I'm wondering if this new thermostat is to blame. The thermostat it replaced had a dial setting inside that could be slid on a scale from 0.0 to 0.9. The new thermostat had no such scale or anything that even looked similar.
I'm using a Hunter digital programmable thermostat that's made specifically for 2 stage heat pumps. The original thermostat was manual non-digital and I can't remember the name offhand.
