to henry in MI - thank you. for years i've been getting wax on the rug. sometimes i can move the furniture. one time i tried the hot iron/brown paper bag method and burnt the rug. i had to get a small rug to cover that mess. more wax fell the other day and i found your method. a pile of ice cubes left on the wax for about 45 minutes just about did the trick, followed by knife scraping. i'm too scared to follow up with the wd-40.
