Merton, A subtle change to darker than what you have CAN be done with stains and/or tints, but you've really only got one chance to get it right. You'll want to do tests first on any brick left from the addition, and if you're unfamiliar with tinting processes and products, get a pro that is familiar with them and faux finishing techniques.
