Bob Vila Radio: Staging to Sell
Did you know that making your home look like a stage set can actually add 10 or 15% to the selling price? You can hire a professional stager or take a stab at it yourself.

First and foremost, you want to clear the junk! Ruthlessly trash your clutter and pack away personal items like family photos and knicknacks. Put half of your furniture in storage, empty out your closets, and rearrange rooms to show more floor space.
Scrub everything, and let in light and fresh air. Wash your windows and open the drapes; if they’ve seen better days, take ’em down. Repaint key areas and do the obvious repairs, like that cracked windowpane. Agents recommend replacing or at least cleaning anything that you touch as you tour the house: railings, countertops, faucets, lightswitches, doorknobs and handles. These things don’t have to cost a lot, but they make a big difference.
When you’re done, who knows… you might not want to move!
