How Green Is Your Town?
The question—How Green is Your Town?—is not a competition but rather a rally call to help build more sustainable communities around the country and, ultimately, a “greener” America for the future.
The challenge is one that is at the core of GreenTowns, a nationwide, community-based website that aims to connect, celebrate, and empower individuals to become more active in their hometown’s efforts to reduce waste, conserve energy, shop local, build greener and, in effect, live more earth-friendly lives.
As a hybrid information/community bulletin board/and social networking site for sustainability, GreenTowns brings together experts in building (Bob Vila among them), energy, lifestyle, water, land and conservation, food, transportation and recycling, along with local organizations, corporate sponsors, community leaders, and people just like you and me, to help support sustainable initiatives at both the local and national level. Discover inspiring new initiatives, learn about local events (like the upcoming Live Green Connecticut in Norwalk, CT, September 17-18), share your questions, expertise and support, and see how you can help make a difference in your community’s “greening” efforts.
So How Green is Your Town? Just visit GreenTowns and enter your city, state or zip code to find out. You are likely to discover some wonderful ways to get involved…or maybe even be inspired to start a new initiative for your own hometown. Most importantly, you can help GreenTowns complete a nationwide snapshot of communities currently working to build a “greener” America. The challenge is up to you.
