Product Description

Remember when you could sand those hard-to-reach places? Two heads are better than one with the WEN Variable Speed Dual-Head Drywall Sander. With a pivoting head that swivels in all directions, the WEN Drywall Sander automatically adjusts to be flush against every surface that crosses its path. Swap on either the circular head or the triangular head depending on the task at hand. Both heads easily detach and install without the aid of any outside tools. Simply slide back the release latch, pick the desired pad shape and get sanding. Adjust the speed anywhere from 600 to 1500 RPM to meet the needs of the project at hand. The hook-and-loop base pad makes sandpaper changes a breeze while the foldable design allows for simple storage and transportation. The lightweight body telescopes to reach lengths up to five feet away. This package also includes six pieces of hook and loop sandpaper discs and six pieces of hook-and-loop triangular sandpaper (60, 80, 120, 150, 180 and 240 grit). The improved hole configuration places the sandpaper holes directly below the included dust hose, maximizing dust collection and minimizing cleanup (NOTE: round head only compatible with replacement sandpaper models DW60SP, DW80SP, DW120SP, DW150SP, DW240SP, and DW400SP; triangular head compatible with replacement sandpaper models 6377SP80, 6377SP120, 6377SP150, and 6377SP240). Customers like the performance of the sander. They say it works fantastic with very little dust escaping, it is a real time-saver, and produces great results. The orbital head works great and takes off material, the spring loaded shroud works well, and it works good for final sanding. However, some customers mention that the rotary head works best with higher grits, and that it works really well on walls. Overall, most are satisfied with the performance and quality of the tool.

"...corner (triangle) attachment moving from a ceiling to a wall and it did a good job...." Read more

"...However, the results are amazing. It does a great job and is far less messy than traditional sanding with a sponge or pole...." Read more

"For the price I paid this is an excellent tool. When sanding joint compound the sander does collect some of the dust in the head as others have said...." Read more

"...hose connections and everything else I could think of - the orbital head works great and takes off material quickly but as soon as you break contact..." Read more

37 customers mention34 positive3 negative

Customers like the speed of the sander. They mention that it works well, is 10x as fast as hand sanding, and can vary speed as needed. The spinning feature is good for fast, heavy material removal, and the motor has sufficient power and speed. The vacuum takes down compound very quickly, and is a huge timesaver.

"...This sander IF used correctly makes fast work with the least amount of dust. IF I could give it a 6 star I would. One final word...." Read more

"...else I could think of - the orbital head works great and takes off material quickly but as soon as you break contact with the surface all of that..." Read more

"...The machine works quite well. Sanding is fast. But be aware, the fine dust will clog your vacuums filter quickly...." Read more

96 customers mention41 positive55 negative

Customers are mixed about the dust suction of the sander. Some mention it works fantastic with very little dust escaping, while others say that the fine dust will clog their vacuums filter quickly. The head holds dust, but it doesn't have vacuum suction. The vacuum draw isn't great.

48 customers mention28 positive20 negative

Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the sander. Some mention that it is much easier and faster to sand this way, with a very minimal learning curve. "Works well, 10x as fast as hand sanding. Easy to use once you figure out the power switch. It's a little tricky...." Read more

"...It is heavy so ceiling work gets tiring on the shoulders, but ceilings suck no matter what you do and this at least makes it suck for much less time...." Read more

16 customers mention6 positive10 negative

Customers are mixed about the size of the sander. Some mention that the hose has excellent size, while others say that it's much too small to move enough air. The adjustable length is nice, and it'll fit most vacuums. However, some customers also mention that it didn't fit their 14-gallon shop vac or their 4.5-gal tank vacuum.

"...On 9 foot ceilings it is too short, not expandable, and gives your back, shoulders, and arms a workout...." Read more

Customers find the weight of the sander to be awkward and hard to maintain when sanding. They also say the hose is heavy and not easy to handle. Customers also mention that the weight is poorly distributed and the head doesn't have much pivot.

"...Using this on a cieling is heavy and hard to maintain without frequent breaks for an old guy...." Read more

I would give 5 stars, but
3 Stars
I would give 5 stars, but
I would give 5 stars since the circular sanders (which I primary use) sand really well, the triangle is not that good and the rubber in the side get damage with the corners. The main problem is that if you are like me if bought it for the dust collection system dont bother buying it. It have close to 0% suction. Im using a big 5HP vacuum. The problem is with the engineering of the devices. The vacuum channel goes inseide the handle, it is made of of multiple rubber tubbing in each section of the hangle and THEY ARE NOT sealed, they just sit inside the handle channel which make all the pressure leak through the handle befire ot get to the head which if you read other reviews does not have a good collection system itself. Just like other has mention with all these designs mistakes you can even lift a piece of paper. Now I was able to fix those problem and in my case make it works like a 5 starts (4.5 since we have the problem with the triangle head) but it required me to modify it. If you bypass the whole suction channel inside the handle and instead attach your vacuum there it works awesome. You can even remove the head from the wall right after you sanded that parts and 0 dust will fall. The sand paper looks so clean since the vacuum (5hp) suction all the dust. I recommend 2 approaches if you still buy it1) (like I did because I didnt want to go to the homestore) open the top of the handle and remove the flexible suction tune and attach it straight to your vacuum hose.2) buy a pice of flexible hose and just detach the one in the head and attach it to you vacuum. Check the picture for context and I know you can figure it out.

This unit rapidly flattens dried drywall mud, at a price that the average homeowner may be able to afford, but it is probably important to note that its engineering has been optimised for use on walls not at all for ceilings.

For use on a wall, the on/off switch faces the user, but for ceiling use, the switch faces away from the user. The on/off switch is difficult to manipulate and especially so when facing away from the user.

The triangular head is all but useless for ceiling work as you have to hold the complete sanding unit, parallel to the ceiling to be able to bring the head's sanding surface into position, and the vacuum hose, in any case gets in the way (see photos). In addition, the weight of the motor pulls the head end nearest the user, down, away from the ceiling (see photos) this is a PITA. When used on a wall, the head hangs as shown in the photos and is quite useable.

This unit its self, does not have suction, it requires a vacuum attached to it. I put a cyclone filter between my sander and the vacuum. The cyclone filter removed most of the drywall dust. I did not notice much dust getting into my work area, except when I rotated the head from ceiling sanding, 180 degrees, and then dust spilled onto the floor.

The holes that are in the sanding pads, are not all vacuum holes, as I thought, but are useful for aligning the sanding disks.

To sum up, this unit is heavy for use on a ceiling, but did a great job for me, using it for short periods with frequent breaks. On walls, it works well.

I would recommend this unit.
