Product Description
Scratch Pro
is a revolutionary kit with diamond buffing compound, designed to reduce the appearance of scratches and polish stainless steel surfaces!
Kit Includes:
- 5 pieces of Scratch Pro sandpaper
- 1 orange Scratch Pro diamond buffing compound syringe
- 1 black Scratch Pro diamond buffing compound syringe
- 1 foam gripper for easy buffing by hand
- 1 orange buffing pad
- 1 black buffing pad
- 2 plastic buffing pad protectors
Please see the back for warning information and disclaimers. Improper use of the kit may result in unsatisfactory results.
Application Instructions:
Step 1, Sandpaper - SCRATCH REMOVAL:
Important! Using the Scratch Pro Sandpaper will change the factory finish, and due to the wide variety of finishes of stainless steel appliances, it is not recommended to use this step on large surface areas, such as refrigerator doors. In most cases, you have to go over the entire surface in order to achieve a seamless blend.
Step 1 should be skipped if there are no scratches to remove, and you simply want to restore shine to the surface. Begin by cleaning the scratched area well with a mild cleaning agent. Then, carefully secure a piece of sandpaper to the foam gripper. Gently buff in the direction of the grain until the scratches are removed or their visibility is greatly reduced. This may take several minutes. Clean the area well before proceeding to step #2, again by using a mild cleaning agent.
Step 2, Orange - BUFFING:
Carefully secure the Orange pad to the foam gripper and apply a 1-2 inch strip of Orange compound #2 to Orange buffing pad #2. Hold the gripper firmly, and buff vigorously in the direction of the grain until the surface appears polished. Clean the area thoroughly of all residue before proceeding to step #3. Failure to completely clean all of the diamond compound #2 may cause scratching during the final step. Remove the orange buffing pad from the gripper and cover the used side with a plastic pad protector before storing.
Step 3, Black - POLISHING:
Carefully secure the Black pad to the foam gripper and apply a 1-2 inch strip of Black compound #3 to Black buffing pad #3. Buff with the polishing compound until the surface is sufficiently blended and polished. Finish by cleaning the area thoroughly of all residue. Remove the black buffing pad from the gripper and cover the used side with a plastic pad protector before storing.
Important Product Information:
- ALWAYS clean the scratched area completely between steps, removing all traces of the previous compound before proceeding.
- ALWAYS apply the compounds in order as marked on the syringes, and ALWAYS use the same buffing compound with its designated buffing pad, as these should NEVER be mixed or swapped.
- When not in use, the buffing pads should always be covered by the included pad protectors. Once a buffing pad has been coated with buffing compound, it is highly susceptible to contamination by foreign particles, as these may stick to the pad’s surface and cause scratching. Never use a buffing pad that has been dropped on the floor, come into contact with the wrong buffing compound, or contaminated by any foreign matter or particles.
- Store Scratch Pro compounds between 41° and 100° F. It is also important to avoid direct sunlight, as this may cause melting. ALWAYS replace the syringe caps after use to prevent leakage

I was renting a place with a new, high-end steel sink that got scratched up. Nothing crazy, just dropping knives and stuff over time. Normal wear and tear, but I was worried the landlord would complain. Scratches show up a LOT sooner on shinier sinks.
As a renter, I felt anxious about accidentally f’ing up the sink worse. So I first tested both repair kits on some old stainless steel
pots that I purposely scratched with forks and knives.
Based on the results, I decided NOT to use either repair kit on my sink, and here’s why.
1) both kits work the same way. You aren’t magically “erasing” or filling in scratches. You are making new scratches that (hopefully) closely match the “grain” of your sink. This is to blend out/camouflage the look of the old, unwanted scratches.
In so doing, you remove the factory finish of the sink— this may affect looks and performance going forward. For example, after treatment with these kits, my steel cookware showed water spots faster and looked a bit darker.
2) The ScratchPro kit is lighter duty, with less-abrasive pads. Barry’s Scratch-B-Gone is heavier duty, with more-abrasive pads. Again, they both work the same way.
But I found the ScratchPro was useless on all but the faintest, lightest scratches. If you just dropped a chef’s knife in your sink, you already have a deeper scratch than that!
Meanwhile, the Barry’s kit could really get in there and refinish the surface. But even using the roughest pads in the Barry’s kit and working my way through to the finest pads— I could still see the old knife/fork scratch marks when I was done.
Neither kit was very magical with the results.
3) if your sink finish is brushed and matte (such as a utility sink or cheaper kitchen sink), you can get away with improving the look of the sink via these kits. But I wouldn’t use either kit on a satin or mirror-finished sink. It would just be impossible to exactly match the very finely grained steel on those surfaces. Maybe a pro could do it, I couldn’t.
