Hi I was planning on remodeling my parents basement and I wanted to know if you could hang drywall from Masonary or do you have to build a wooden framework inbetween the brick and drywall? Im not really worried about insulation or sockets, ive just grown tired of the cinderblock walls

I've always seen furring strips installed between the cinder block and drywall or panelling. This will give you room to drop any electrical or phone cables in at a later date if you have to. Good luck!

the furring strips can be attached to the walls or you can install regular studding. One thing to check is make sure the walls stay dry. You may need to use some sort of waterproofing sealant or install a vapor barrier before hanging the drywall. A little extra preperation now can save a lot of time if your basement gets wet or damp in the future. I do waterproofing and use Endur-o-seal Products to treat concrete, They penetrate the concrete blocking passage of water, vapor and even gases. Invest a little more in your basement to save reconstruction costs in the future.
