I found a set of double doors in my carriage house that I would like to rehang. The problem is that they are covered in a thick layer of dust and dirt. What should I use to properly clean and strip them? The doors are possibly late 1800's.

find a good paint store.

Scrapers, file to keep it sharp.

sandpaper

there may be weak wood, needing some Minwax wood hardener and wood filer.

More sandpaper.

Skiled carpenter to hang - unless all hardware is there and good.

Paint

try some ready strip by back to nature. i've found that it works great on old oil based paints. and it's not hazardous! check your local ace hardware store.
