Larry, I actually stil like to solder /braze copper tubing up to 6" but because of the lack of skill level encountered today and because on a lot of jobs having a complete shut down with no water draining is difficult at best A propress fills the gap to install piping and fititngs with water still trickling
A lot of my new construction jobs we paid the mechanics what I normally would pay a decent jobbing helper as these folks are nothing more then factory workers on a construction job site.
Cast iron is no hub, copper is propress, fire sprinklers CPVC or other types of approved plastics.
So speed is the way to make husing cost effective . The only consideration is the heavy cost of each fitting
