We have an old bamboo floor that we need to improve. We want to use plywood we cut into planks and finish it to look like a hardwood floor, but not so expensive. Can we use self leveling compound poured directly over the old bamboo flooring? The floor has a lot of areas that are not level but we want to keep the old flooring for added insulation. How can we level it without an excessive additional expense?

Hello there!

I don't think self leveling compound poured directly over the bamboo flooring will work because it may crack. It will absolutely do expand and contract enough to fracture thin layers of cement. I only tried wood planks. I use SLC to level it before putting the wood planks. Hope this helps.
