We're planning on replacing our front double doors soon. They're 30" wide each, standard height. The framing is perfectly good, so to save cost I'd like to keep it and change out only the doors themselves. However, we've been told by a couple of contractors that there will be fit/alignment issues if the framing is not also replaced.
I'm quite skeptical about that. Why do the present doors fit just fine when new doors of the same dimensions would not? I think a good contractor would be able to make any minor adjustments needed to nestle the new doors in quite adequately.
Am I missing something? New framing is costly and I feel it would be unnecessary. The existing framing is solid and not warped or distorted.
