I just had a new trex deck installed on the new house I am building. It is on a bay and I have not even moved into it yet. My contractor told me that my neighbors are complaining about the LOUD howling noise that is coming from my house when the wind gets up to about 30mph and it blows through the deck. Since I am on the water it is often very windy, especially since my house is so high. My deck is 8'X 50' in the back of my house (facing the water) and raised about 15 feet from the ground. I also have a front deck and side walkway of trex decking. MY contractor has temporally placed plywood down to stop the noise. However, this problem needs to be solved. He had told me it is an unbearable loud noise.

How can this problem be solved? Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

Good Afternoon,

The noise your neighbors are hearing is created by the wind blowing through the grooves in the deck boards. Trex has a gasket which can be installed on the deck and will eliminate the noise created by the wind. Please contact us at 1-800-BUY-TREX to obtain further information on the gaskets.

Thank you,

Curious, Have you followed TREX recommendation? Did the spacers stop the wind. I heard it is not easy to install the spacers so I don’t want to do it if it’s ineffective.
