Hi we have a historic home that is 94 yrs old. We’re having water leaking into the upstairs bedroom on the plaster ceilings 2 of the 3. The water never actually drips or runs on the floor just stains the plaster ceilings mostly around the chimney. We’re working on getting to the bottom of exactly where the moisture is coming from. Probably hvac unit in attic duct work and Chimmey leak combo, maybe popped nail on roof. But chimneys yes two most likely need repointed. Have had different answers about what strength of mortar to use S or O?
The bricks are handmade I’m told because of the age of the house. If the wrong mortar is used it will actually do more damage. But it has to be strong enough to do it’s job. So which one, S or O mortar?
