My partner and I moved into an old house and had it repainted with lots of bold, vibrant colors. Paint started chipping almost immediately around doors and windows - my partner thought it indicated problems right away, I thought some chipping was inevitable around wooden windows and doors, especially in an old house. We're now two months later, and it seems like nearly every surface is chipping. Some of the chips where where we knocked into the walls moving our furniture in, but many were much lighter contacts. A stray finger nail will leave a mark. We have built-in shelves that they painted, and now if something sits on a shelf for a week, when we pick it up, it pulls paint up with it. Also, the other day, one of us splashed a little bit of red wine onto one of the white shelves. We *immediately* wiped it up, but it left a permanent mark. We tried spraying it... nothing.

My partner thinks the painters improperly used acrylic over oil throughout the entire house and we should get all or most of our money back. I am hoping it's something else, as I'm not looking forward to taking anybody to court. (A) is there anything else that might have cause all this, and more importantly, (B) what can we do about it now? I also don't want to repaint the entire place.
