Plasma Lighter Safety
Is it safe to look directly at the arc of a plasma lighter? Specifically the single-arc variety used to light candles.
You have to look at it in order to center the wick in the arc, & then it takes a few seconds for the wick to catch. All of those "just a few seconds" add up. Two science friends suggested that looking at the plasma arc might be bad for your eyes in the long run, altho they don't know for sure. But since this is a fairly new concept for most people (incl me), if they don't feel any immediate eye pain, it might not be apparent that it's not good for you to look directly at the arc. It's a cool gadget, but not worth hurting my eyes for.
