In the process of buying a home and after living in an apt in NYC I've realized how little I know about basic home care. I have some initial questions on remodeling/improvement that would help me greatly in cost and time planning.
1.I want to paint the inside of the house, do the wood floors and replace the ceilings which are "cottage cheese". At a later date, about year or two down the road, I will be redoing the bathrooms and kitchen. My questions is in what order should I do the repairs - paint, floors and ceiling?
2. Some of the walls have wallpaper. Will that be an issue when painting and what is a "reasonable" price for painting a 2500 sqft home>?
3. Most of the house has nice wood floors that seem to simply require sanding and some coating. Some parts of the house (living room and master bdrm) have wall-2-wall carpeting which I want to take off. Any advice on how best to go about this so that I have uniform wood floors everywhere but the bthrms and kitchen?
4. The ceilings are for some reason not flat like Im used to. They are made-up of square boards of some kind with holes in them which is not of my liking. Though the plaster is nice, I would like to change the ceilings. How is this done? Would it be with drywall and how much is the cost usually.
