I have a four year old house with a blacktop driveway that just barely fits two cars wide. We would like to widen it enough to be able to part next to eachother so the one car garage door is not always blocked. In our development we see many other homeowners who when having the driveway installed, they had it swing out at the top to fit two cars wide. They simply lanscaped at the end of the driveway to finish it off. We do not want to just put gravel down because we feel it looks messy. Is there a way to widen it attractively and keep the cost down? I have been told that contractors sometimes will not bring the machinery out if the job is not worth it. Would a decorative brick work?

Pavers are what you want to look into. Sure, they can be used to widen the driveway. IN fact, if you 'line' both sides of the driveway, sufficiently ..., then you'll have 'step-out' room for people getting into and out of the cars.

The trick here is that the paver bed be properly installed. If not, then the pavers will crack because the bed was not installed correctly. Drainage is important, important, IMPORTANT!!!

My best to ya and hope this helps.
