I no longer have water coming from my hot water taps, but plenty of water from the cold. This problem came on suddenly. Is there anything I can try before I have to pay a fortune to a plumber? I have turned off the heater until I can get this fixed.

Try removing a stem from the hot side of a faucet. Turn the valve back on to the cold feed of the water heater. Notice what comes out. If you see small bits of plastic like material, the dip tube has melted inside of your hot water heater, and is clogging up the water lines. You can also remove the aerators to check. Good luck.
