We had the sales pitch last Wed. We signed the purchase agreement. They installed on Thurs.-big mess-Another rep. came out on Fri. to finalize the paper work- the notice of right to cancel, retail installment contract, loan completion cert., svc. completion agreement, and credit app. On Tues. I mailed a certified letter canceling the purchase. Rainsoft says my three days were over. We don't consider the purchase complete until Friday, because that is when we received our paperork-the contracts, etc. Does anyone know?

If I were you I would contact your state's consumers' division or similar agency and find out what your rights are.

Stick to your guns, be firm, and they'll back off. Tell them you've been advised they may be in violation of your state's deceptive trade practices act.

Tamera - hi, the others have given you good advice. If this purchase is like other major purchases, the 3 days normally begins the day the contracts are signed. However, if they didn't leave you with a copy of them, or explain that 3-day clause to your satisfaction (or even explain it at all), then it could be seen as a "deceptive trade practice" as pointed out. If you didn't inquire about the 3-day clause, that's not a reason for the company to fail to honor it. The salesman should've gone over the contract items in detail, making sure you were satisfied with your level of understanding.

Of course, the company will not want to budge since the 3-day limit started the day you signed the papers. (Check that portion of your copy of the contract now - maybe there's something there that you're overlooking that'll help you on this.) So, stick to your guns - but be ready to contact a lawyer and the BBB. Even better might be if one of your local TV stations have a "consumer complaints" segment...let them investigate and go after the company on your behalf...I've seen it work elsewhere. Best of luck with this - regards! Jim D/Heathsville, VA
