I am planning to be away from my house for a couple of months this summer. What should I do with water?

(1) Leave things as it is and do nothing?

(2) Shut off the main valve?

(3) Leave things as it is and have someone run the water a little from time to time?

What should I do with my water heater?

(1) Shut it off altogether?

(2) Leave it as it is and just raise the water temperture control a little?

Thank you for any suggestions.

I would shut off all water and electric at the main shut offs for the house but... if your insurance company finds out you are gone for more than 30 days... you may not have any insurance coverage if there is a claim after that time frame. Personally I'd find someone to come check the house periodically and preferrably stay there for a week/month whle shutting off eveything when they left.
