I would like to build a mezzanine in my two car garage. It would span 21 feet and be approx 4-5 feet wide.

I want this to span the 21 feet without a support in the middle if possible.

I was thinking of using three 2x6's bolted or nailed together.

What does everyone think?

You really need to get a structural engineer or a local carpenter to size that span due to the differing location & load factors...

... that said the min. supporting a light load roof only w/no snow is a (6) 5 5/8 x (12) 11 7/8 psl engineered beam spaning 21 ft.

Have a look at my deck site, ... decks dash ca dot com ... go to the joist span page and use the US species calculator for headers just so you'll know the loads & what can be put into header width for your specific load, that will pop up a pdf table for you to look at.
