I have old laminate countertops from the 70's. We would like to remove the entire countertop and install new ones from a home store. It appears that the counter sits on a "rail" of press board about 1"x1" which then sits on the cabinets. How would I remove this? Peel up the laminate and look for screws? How will the new countertop attach to the cabinets? Thanks!!

I believe our counter tops are installed from below. We have screws going up into our countertops so the counter top must have had the laminate installed on delivery. good luck. look in the corners, I believe that is where our screws are (from inside the cabinets)

the normal procedure for setting these would have been to screw up from beneath to hold the tops down in place.

But I have seen every possible scenarios used when remodleing, so go slow and careful if you want to save the cabinets. By driving shims in between cab and top, you can sometimes discover where the points of atachment are.

Excellence is its own reward!
