I have a hot tub that I have added solar heat and I am in the process of adding some new wiring ( remote heater switch, ozonator and circulation pump).
My heater is 220v 5.5kw with only a BLACK and RED leg. It is bolted to the outside of my hot tub controllers' metal grounded box.
My Question is can I split one leg (black or red) with a relay and not have power going through my heater coil USING POWER?
Thanks
snix
I am not sure what you are asking.
Bur for CONTROL of 240v loads you only need to break on of the legs.
But you still need a disconnect that will break both legs for service and safety.

im not totally sure what your wanting to do, are you wanting to know how to turn your heater on and off with a relay, but dont have a neutral for the relay coil? if that is what your wanting to know, just get a relay or contactor with a 240v. coil or you can set a small transformer and run controls off of 24 volts....
