Hi! I am about to repaint my kitchen, which had been painted "porcelain" finish by the previous owners. It is so shiny I can see my face on my walls!! I would like to put a semi-gloss or pearl finish (preferably latex). If I sand thoroughly the surface to make it dull, thoroughly clean, and then use a super adherent primer like Zinsser, would it be OK? Is there a risk of poor adhesion over time? I really don't like that super-dooper-gloss finish. Thank you.

In adition to the sanding wash the kitchen down with amonia to make sure it clean and there is not any grease which will give you adhesion problems. Once you prime it you can use the finish paint of your choice.

could you please tell me what type or brand of primer would work best on such a surface? Thanks.

The Cover Stain primer from Zinsser would be a good choice.
