I want to repaint my house this summer but I'm rather intimidated by working around the electric wires coming to the house. Do I need to get the power shut off to my house while painting the area that would require me to use a ladder near there, and while painting near where it connects to the house?

Also, there is this huge grey sheathed cable that runs from where the electric wire comes to the house at the roof peak in front, is connected just under the roof line to the side, then runs down the wall to the meter. Can I paint over it? Should the power be off to the house before I paint it? There's some peeling paint behind it and I'm nervous about using something to remove the peeling paint around those huge electric wires.

I'm going to cross-post this in the electrical section.

If you give your electric utility a call - they will come out and put a shield over your lines that runs about 3 feet out from the house.

This should be at no charge to you.

Then - just be careful - I painted my house 2 years ago - had the same issue. Called the power company - used a wooden ladder on that side of the house - and was careful.

I had no problems.
