The carpet is attached around the perimeter by small stips of wood with small metal spikes that hold the carpet like velcro, I guess. It was also stapled around the edge and through the middle. It was glued in a few places too, but that seems to rub off easily. Just go for it, using a good pry bar for the wood strips, sometthing to pull up the staples and nails, and some pliers for the stubborn staples.
