I actually photograph houses for a living, and I saw this kind of flooring that I really like and would love to put in a basement I am finishing at my own home. It kind of looks like fake leather.

What is it, how cheap it is, where does one get it, etc??

Look at it here:

Looking at the pic, it appears to be stained concrete to me. Its actually quite popular, I see it in a lot of new homes in the south.

either stained concrete, or Armstrong sheet vinyl flooring.

Is it super hard like concrete, or is it semi soft?

Well, unfortunately my photographer visited this house instead of me, so I don't know about the "feel" for sure, but I think I've seen similar stuff before, and it was almost like rubber -- not hard like concrete or standard vinyl. A little give. THoughts?

I really have this idea in my head that its some sort of rubber sheets, much thicker than just linoleum. Anyone know where I could fine out more about this?

While almost everyone calls vinyl sheet flooring "linoleum" the real thing still exists. It has the appearance and characteristics you are describing in your post. I think the floor is covered with, linoleum.
