Home Technology Update

Project: Vermont Farmhouse, Episode 10, Part 1

Work is continuing in the garage, where new Clopay garage doors and Craftsman door openers are being installed. Tim Woods (from the Internet Home Alliance) is back on site to talk a little more about "connected home" solutions and to explain how the structured wiring and satellite dish will distribute information throughout the house.
Part 1: Home Technology Update
Bob meets up with Tim Woods (of the Internet Home Alliance) in the basement of the Quechee home to hear about the progress made integrating the connected home technology. Looking at the network control center, Tim points out the wires representing the different systems in the house. The black wires come from the two-way satellites and provide the internet access and the high-definition and broadband-capable entertainment.

Another group of cables facilitate the distribution of shared data throughout the house. The router provides for data distribution and internet access, and ties in with the housewide wireless system, as well.

Upstairs some of the ADT I-centers are already hooked up and are tied in with the security system which has a box of its own in the basement.
Part 2: Touring the Calvin Coolidge House and the Burtch-Udall House
The wooded New England setting, with quaint towns and covered bridges, provides the perfect backdrop for building a traditional Vermont-style farmhouse.

Bob works with the Quechee Lakes Development Company to build a residence that hearkens back to the past yet satisfies the needs of a family in the new millennium.
