With its seamless setup, fast app pairing, and intuitive controls, the Scuba X1 cordless robotic pool cleaner had our attention even before testing. And once we put it in the water, we were impressed that it not only navigated the pool without issue, but that each mode—floor, wall, waterline, and smart—worked so well. But our favorite aspect was probably the cleaner’s filtration system, which uses a thicker material than other models to do a better job of collecting fine debris and algae (more of both than we even knew was there). Once the robot was done, the filter was simple to clean by popping it out and hosing it off, and the compact charging station made sure everything was ready for the next go-round.

That targeted approach allows the dual filtration system to capture sand, bugs, and fine algae with every pass, leaving the water noticeably clearer as a result. Like most pool robots, the Scuba V3 is made of plastic, but the build feels solid and durable, and extra features like the automated weekly scheduler and excellent retrieval system (the robot climbs to the waterline and sheds water weight before you lift it out) make it clear how well-designed this premium model is.

Aiper’s EcoSurfer S2 pool skimmer is one of the easiest, most hands-off pool maintenance tools we’ve ever used. Powered by a built-in solar panel, the robot cruises your pool continuously without needing dedicated charging time (it comes with a backup plug as well), pulling leaves, bugs, and pollen into its debris basket as it goes. In our tests, it did an excellent job bouncing around on its own, but the easy-to-use companion app also allows for remote steering if desired. At about $400, it offers a good balance between price and performance and will keep your water’s surface clean with almost zero daily effort.
