The Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter earned our top spot because it gave us the strongest combination of cooling performance, comfort, and quality. We tested it alongside several other cooling blankets over the course of a month, rotating them between bedrooms and guest rooms. Like the other top performers in this guide, the Evercool felt noticeably cool to the touch the moment we pulled it over to sleep. The silky-smooth fabric glides across the skin, and every time we shifted positions during the night, a fresh section of fabric provided another burst of cooling relief.

What separated the Rest Evercool from the pack was its overall premium feel. The fabric felt exceptionally smooth and soft, while the lightweight fill struck an excellent balance between breathability and comfort. Despite its thin profile, it never felt flimsy, and it provided enough warmth for comfortable sleeping without trapping excess heat. Guests who tested it in our spare bedrooms consistently commented on how cool it felt, with a few even mentioning that it bordered on too chilly for their preferences (a great result for the Florida summer!).

Like most cooling comforters, the Evercool looks flatter on a made bed than a traditional fluffy duvet. Those who prefer a plush, hotel-style appearance may wish it had a little more loft. However, once bedtime arrived, that concern disappeared. For sleepers who prioritize cooling performance over appearance, the Rest Evercool delivered the best overall experience of any model we tested.

What our tester says: “Of all the cooling comforters I tested, this is the one I kept coming back to. It felt noticeably cool every time I moved during the night, and several guests commented on how comfortable it was too.”—Paul Rankin, Product Reviews tester and writer.

This Slumber Cloud comforter feels cool to the touch the second you pull it out of the packaging. It features Outlast technology, which consists of tiny microencapsulated beads called Thermocules that offset temperature fluctuations during the night. It absorbs excess heat when your body temperature rises and then can release heat as your body cools down.

During testing, the Slumber Cloud performed very well, which is why it came in as runner-up. One of our testers overheats very easily, even in winter. She tested the comforter with and without a duvet cover, and in both configurations, it did an excellent job of wicking moisture and was highly breathable. It has a nice weight and warmth, but it prevents users from waking up with a sticky, wet feeling.

It has a 300-thread-count cover with corner loops for a duvet cover. The materials are Oeko-Tex 100 Standard Certified, so you know it’s free of more than 400 potentially harmful chemicals.

The quilt boxing did well to keep the fill evenly dispersed during use and while washing. We washed and dried it in a standard home machine without any trouble. The only downside we found was that it came out very wrinkled after washing and drying. Of course, if you use a duvet cover, that’s a non-issue.

We found the Elegear cooling throw blanket to be a great value because it delivers impressive cooling performance at a budget-friendly price. During testing, the blanket quickly became a favorite thanks to its dual-sided design. One side features Arc-Chill cooling fabric, while the other is made from 100 percent Egyptian cotton. The cooling side felt noticeably cool to the touch and provided welcome relief during warm nights, while the cotton side offered a slightly cozier feel when temperatures dropped.

We appreciated the flexibility to choose between the two surfaces depending on our comfort preferences. When we wanted maximum cooling, we used the Arc-Chill side against our skin; when we wanted a little extra warmth, we flipped it over. The drapey fabric strikes a nice balance between weight and breathability, gently contouring to the body without feeling heavy. It worked equally well as a bed blanket and as a throw for relaxing on the couch.

The Elegear comes in four sizes and eight colors, giving shoppers plenty of options to match their space. It’s also machine washable, though it does need to be line-dried. While it doesn’t offer quite the same premium feel as some higher-end cooling comforters we tested, its combination of comfort, cooling ability, and affordability makes it one of the strongest values in this guide.

The Bedsure Cooling Comforter proved that you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy a cooler night’s sleep. During testing, it performed remarkably similarly to several more expensive cooling comforters, offering the same cool-to-the-touch sensation and lightweight feel that hot sleepers are looking for. The fabric felt smooth against the skin, and the comforter did an excellent job of staying comfortable throughout warm Florida nights.

What made the Bedsure stand out was its versatility. We tested a king size in gray, and it looked great in our small guest room. We didn’t love the color options on offer, but we did like that it’s available in seven different size options. When testing, the breathable construction helped prevent overheating, while the lightweight fill provided enough coverage to feel cozy without becoming stuffy. We also appreciated that it could be used on its own or paired with a duvet cover thanks to the built-in corner loops.

As with the other cooling comforters in this guide, the Bedsure sacrifices loft in favor of cooling performance. It won’t provide the thick, fluffy appearance of a traditional comforter, which may disappoint shoppers who prioritize aesthetics. Still, for an affordable, well-performing comforter for hot sleepers that washes easily and works for a wide range of sleepers, it’s an excellent everyday choice.

The Miracle Made Cooling Comforter delivers the same cool, comfortable sleeping experience we enjoyed from several of the top cooling comforters we tested, but it adds an extra focus on freshness. Its silver-treated fabric is designed to help minimize odor-causing bacteria, making it a particularly appealing option for sweaty sleepers, guest rooms, or anyone who prefers to stretch the time between washes.

In testing, the comforter immediately impressed with its cool-to-the-touch fabric and smooth finish. Like the other top-performing cooling comforters, it felt pleasantly cool whenever we moved and came into contact with a fresh section of fabric. The lightweight construction gave us excellent airflow, helping prevent overheating while still providing enough coverage for comfortable sleeping. We also appreciated the clean, modern appearance, which looked a little more refined than some competing options thanks to its piping and quilted design.

Performance-wise, it was difficult to distinguish the Miracle Made from several of the other leading comforters once we were actually sleeping under it. That’s more of a compliment than a criticism, since all of the top models performed exceptionally well. Our only real complaint is the same one we had with most cooling comforters: its thin profile doesn’t create the plush, luxurious look of a traditional comforter when the bed is made.

We found the Mellow CloudCool to be the most luxurious award thanks to its premium materials and reversible design. While many cooling comforters feel similar in day-to-day use, the CloudCool stood out for offering two distinct sleep surfaces: a cool-to-the-touch side for maximum cooling, and a softer side that still remained breathable and comfortable.

Throughout testing, the CloudCool delivered the same excellent cooling sensation we experienced with the other top models. It felt refreshingly cool when first climbing into bed and continued to provide relief throughout the night as we shifted positions. The comforter remained lightweight and breathable without feeling flimsy, while the smooth fabric created an upscale feel that matched its premium positioning.

The biggest differentiator here is the overall look. From the stitching pattern to the fabric finish, the CloudCool simply feels like a higher-end bedding product. That said, cooling performance was very close to several other comforters in this guide, including less expensive options (though the CloudCool isn’t that much pricier). Like the others, it also lacks the lofty appearance of a traditional comforter. Still, for shoppers seeking a premium cooling comforter with an elevated look and feel, the CloudCool is an excellent choice.

What our tester says: “The cooling performance was excellent across the board, but the CloudCool stood out for its premium feel. If you want a cooling comforter that feels a little more luxurious without sacrificing comfort, this would be my pick.” —Paul Rankin, Product Reviews tester and writer.

The Buffy Breeze Comforter is made of Tencel lyocell fiber that pulls moisture away from the body to help keep it cool. We noticed a difference with this comforter right away. It’s very cool to the touch, and it has a nice loft (height) for a cooling bed blanket.

It has corner loops to hold a duvet cover; we tested both with and without a cover. The Buffy performed equally well whether it had a cover or not. The filling stayed in place all night long, which helped regulate temperature across the entire body.

This comforter is made entirely of plant-based fibers, so it’s compostable and biodegradable. A 300-thread sateen weave cover gives it a smooth feel if you like sleeping without a duvet cover. Sateen can trap more heat than a percale weave, but the quality of the fabric counteracted that. It gives the comforter a soft, smooth surface. It’s worth nothing that the Breeze comforter is dry clean only.

The stonewashed fabric of the Brooklinen Washed European Linen Quilt offers a luxuriously soft feel. Featuring 100 percent linen derived from Belgian and French flax, the blanket breathes and wicks away moisture to help you stay dry overnight. It also comes with cooling polyester fill for added air circulation.

This is truly a cooling blanket. The fabric and filling felt amazing and surprisingly light. It did a wonderful job of wicking away moisture when the temperatures rose at night, and it had the right amount of weight for comfort. We tested the queen-size quilt, and while it was a little big for use on the couch, we did it anyway. It’s an all-around comfortable cooling quilt that we’d gladly use daily.

Each linen blanket is individually washed and garment-dyed and features a subtle diamond stitching that adds an attractive texture to the surface. We machine-washed it on the cool cycle and tumble-dried it on low. The Brooklinen came out looking as good as new. Like all linen, it wrinkles easily, leaning more toward the shabby chic side of style.

Comfort5/5Effectiveness5/5Appearance4/5Quality5/5Value4.7/5

For the ultimate in climate-controlled sleep, check out the BedJet 3. All we can say is, wow. Instead of relying on fabric or fill for cooling, the BedJet features a mini AC unit that tucks out of sight beneath the bed. You can control the air temperature from your smartphone (Wi-Fi is necessary) or a remote control. You need Wi-Fi to set up the remote control, too. After that, you can use the remote without the app.

A lightweight vacuum hose connects the BedJet to a specially ventilated Cloud Sheet (sold separately). You can also order the dual-zone Cloud Sheet so you and your partner can set different temperatures. However, you’ll also need a second BedJet unit, which is pricey. The Cloud Sheet has several openings through which you can install the BedJet hose. The sheet then encapsulates the air rather than allowing it to blow directly over the body or between the top sheet and duvet.

We tested the BedJet with and without the Cloud Sheet. While the Cloud Sheet is high quality and focuses the airflow well, we found the BedJet to be just as effective and easy to control using regular bed sheets

The BedJet offers amazing temperature control, whether you’re cooling or heating. We tried it both ways. It offers enough adjustment that you can get comfortable, whether you sleep warm or cool.

Through the app, you can set bio timers that automatically adjust the temperature throughout the night. The controls also let you set the runtime. You can also adjust the temperature by degrees and adjust the fan speed. We were thoroughly impressed with the BedJet, as it gives remarkable control over your sleep environment. It can get a little loud when it’s on the highest fan speed, but other than that, it’s fantastic.

What We Don’t Like

  • Care Machine wash; lay flat to dry
  • Size options 4

Our Ratings

Comfort5/5Effectiveness5/5Appearance4/5Quality5/5Value4.7/5

This chunky-knit cooling weighted blanket looks like a cozy sweater, only on a grander scale. It’s made of moisture-wicking knitted Tencel (eucalyptus) that comes in four weights: 10, 15, 20, and 25 pounds. It also comes in eight colors.

This blanket isn’t for lightweights. It’s heavy but easier to carry than similarly weighted blankets because your fingers can slide between the stitches. That space between the stitches enhances airflow. We could feel the air coming in, and it kept us cool and comfortable. It helps that the Tencel is cool to the touch. It had all the weight without the heat. Plus, the knit does a good job of evenly distributing weight so that you feel the weight all over your body.

A couple of things worth noting: The Tree Napper is vegan and has the MADE IN GREEN by Oeko-Tex and Fairtrade International certifications. Both certifications assure the sustainability and traceability of the blanket’s materials.

On the downside, the blanket stretches under its own weight, which can be annoying when you’re trying to get it adjusted. Additionally, it has to lie flat to dry, which, given its weight and size, wasn’t easy.

This blanket gets the weighted runner-up designation because of its cool-to-the-touch cover and even weight distribution. If you like a traditional weighted blanket but the summer months have you sweating, this is the model for you. We tested the 20-pound model, and the weight distribution is amazing. The inner blanket is quilted and filled with glass beads that stay evenly distributed.

The polyester cover felt cool against our skin during testing, even after we’d laid under it for a while. It’s a little warmer than some of the other blankets we tested, but as far as a traditional weighted blanket goes, it lets your body breathe to prevent too much heat from getting trapped.

The removable cover was easy to wash and came out looking as good as it did when it went in. We also discovered that it has many (many) ties to keep the blanket from shifting in the cover, which was a huge plus.

How We Tested the Best Cooling Blankets

Testing Stats
Products tested 14
Time spent testing 1 month
Tests performed3 to 4
Price range$50 to $570

We tested 14 cooling blankets, comforters, and bedding systems in real-world conditions, spending at least one full night (and often several nights) sleeping under each model, along with additional time lounging on the couch. Room temperatures ranged from 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit throughout testing. We evaluated cooling performance, breathability, moisture-wicking ability, softness, comfort, appearance, ease of care, and overall value. Particular attention was paid to how cool each blanket felt when first touched, whether it helped prevent overheating overnight, and how comfortable it remained throughout the night.

We also considered practical factors such as available sizes, color options, construction quality, and maintenance requirements. All machine-washable blankets were laundered according to the manufacturer’s instructions to evaluate durability and ease of care. The BedJet’s unique design required several nights of testing to learn its settings and timer functions, and it was evaluated both with the Cloud Sheet and a standard sheet. Comforters were also tested both with and without duvet covers when applicable. Final scores were based on a combination of cooling performance, comfort, quality, versatility, ease of maintenance, and overall value.

What to Consider When Choosing the Best Cooling Blanket

A cooling blanket should keep the user from overheating and sweating. It should certainly be soft on the skin, but there are additional considerations as well, such as weight, material type, and how easy it is to clean.

Breathable Material

Fabrics that breathe and manage moisture effectively are the most likely to help users sleep comfortably.

  • Cotton: Breathable, soft, and widely used in bedding. Cotton promotes airflow but may retain more moisture than some cooling fabrics.
  • Rayon (including bamboo-derived rayon): Known for its silky feel, moisture management, and ability to stay cool against the skin.
  • Tencel (lyocell): Soft, breathable, and commonly found in premium cooling bedding.
  • Polyester: Often blended with other materials to improve durability, moisture management, and drying speed.
  • Eucalyptus fibers: Smooth, lightweight fibers that offer breathability and a soft feel.
  • Linen: Naturally breathable and quick-drying, making it a popular choice for warm-weather bedding.

Lightweight Design

Most cooling blankets get their temperature-regulating properties through a lightweight design. Thinner fabrics allow for better airflow and make it easier for our body heat to escape rather than getting trapped under the covers. This helps create a cooler, more comfortable sleeping environment, especially for hot sleepers.

During testing, we found that many of the best cooling blankets and comforters felt surprisingly thin compared to traditional comforters. While some shoppers may prefer the lofty look of a fluffy duvet, a lighter-weight blanket is often more effective at preventing overheating and reducing that stuffy feeling that can interrupt sleep. A worthy tradeoff for hot sleepers, usually.

Cooling Technology

While many cooling blankets rely on breathable fabrics and lightweight construction, some incorporate specialized cooling technologies to help regulate temperature. Active cooling systems, such as the BedJet, use a separate unit to circulate cool air beneath the covers for more noticeable temperature control.

Other products use temperature-regulating materials designed to respond to changes in body heat. Outlast technology, originally developed for NASA, uses microscopic phase-change materials that absorb excess heat and release it as the body cools. Similarly, 37.5 technology uses active particles embedded in the fabric to help manage heat and humidity before moisture can build up. These technologies can be especially beneficial for hot sleepers, people who experience night sweats, or those dealing with hot flashes.

Washability

Most cooling blankets and comforters are machine washable, but it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s care instructions to preserve their cooling properties and overall performance. During testing, we washed all machine-washable models to evaluate ease of care, fabric durability, and whether they maintained their softness and cooling feel afterward.

A quality cooling blanket should hold up well through repeated washing without excessive pilling, shrinking, clumping, or loss of performance. If easy maintenance is a priority, look for models that can be both machine washed and machine dried rather than those that require line drying or professional cleaning.

Aesthetics

For many homeowners, appearance matters almost as much as comfort. Consider how the color, stitching pattern, and overall design will coordinate with your existing bedding and bedroom décor. Many cooling blankets are available in a variety of colors and sizes, making it easy to find one that suits your style.

During testing, we also considered how each blanket looked when the bed was made. Some cooling comforters have a sleek, modern appearance, while others mimic the loft and texture of traditional bedding. Keep in mind that many cooling blankets prioritize lightweight construction over fluffiness, so they may look flatter than a conventional comforter despite being great for sleeping.

FAQs

Q. How does a cooling blanket work?

Cooling blankets are usually made of fibers that wick away sweat and increase air circulation. Also, some blankets contain temperature-regulating technology to keep you cool. Others are simply lightweight. Their lack of insulation allows for maximum breathability and airflow.

Q. What is a cooling blanket used for?

A cooling blanket is for anyone who gets hot or sweaty while sleeping. Some people consistently get overheated, and these types of blankets can help.

Q. Is there a cooling blanket for hot flashes?

Yes, any cooling blanket will help a person who suffers from hot flashes, but one with temperature-regulating technology may help the most.

Q. Is there a cooling blanket for night sweats?

Any of the blankets in the list of Top Picks is suitable for someone who experiences night sweats.

Q. Is there a cooling blanket for camping?

Camping during hot weather can make for miserable sleeping. Covering up with a cooling blanket or a cooling sheet will help you sleep better instead of lying on (or in) a sleeping bag.

Q. Can you wash a cooling blanket in a washing machine?

Yes, most of the time—but always read the cleaning instructions on the tag to make sure the manufacturer doesn’t recommend a specific type of detergent or water temperature.

Q. How long does a cooling blanket last?

Like other blankets, a cooling blanket should last for many years.
