Others are made of premium food-grade polyurethane or lightweight vinyl with a fabric sleeve. Soaker hose is affordable, easy to set up, and moistens the ground all along its length. It is not very effective when it comes to watering expansive gardens. ### Water Pressure and Flow Rate A low-pressure drip irrigation system makes deep watering easy without waste. Many of these systems include a pressure regulator that attaches directly to the water supply. This device reduces pressure coming into the system from an average of 60 pounds per square inch (PSI) to about 20 PSI. Having this component in place and operational allows the rest of the system to function properly. With the pressure now reduced, the flow rate is controlled by the emitters. Fixed rate emitters are calibrated to allow a precise amount of water through. You will find an embossed GPH rating on the body of the emitter.
