## Our Top Picks

The following smart toilets stood out for their features, design, value, and overall usability. Our Best Overall pick, the Horow X70, also underwent hands-on installation and testing, giving us firsthand insight into how its features perform in everyday use. The remaining recommendations earned their spots through our research and comparison process.

We had a useful point of comparison when testing the Horow X70. In 2025, we installed and reviewed the brand’s [T38P smart toilet](<https://www.bobvila.com/reviews/horow-smart-toilet-review/>), which is still in regular use in our tester’s powder room. This X70 model was installed in the tester’s primary bathroom, and one of the first improvements we noticed was during installation. At 104 pounds, this is still an extremely heavy toilet that’s much easier to maneuver with two people, but the actual installation process is straightforward. Most notably, the openings underneath the X70 that fit over the mounting bolts are considerably larger than those on the T38P, making it much easier to lower the toilet into the correct position.

There is one installation detail we wish Horow had reconsidered: the power cord uses conventional three-prong plug that sticks noticeably out from the wall. Space around a toilet is often tight, so a flatter, low-profile plug would make it easier to keep the toilet close to the wall and conceal the cord.

Once installed, though, the X70 is excellent to use. Walk toward it, and the lid automatically opens. Sit down and the heated seat is already warm, while an internal deodorizing fan starts running to help control odors. The fan produces a faint but noticeable sound while seated, though we didn’t find it particularly distracting. The toilet also offers heated bidet washing, a warm-air dryer, automatic flushing, self-cleaning functions, and a Foam Shield that dispenses foam over the bowl water.

Horow redesigned the remote for the X70 as well, and this is one area where we don’t think every change is an improvement. The right side is now a backlit touch-sensitive panel that has to be tapped to wake it. More frustratingly, tapping a temperature control to see the current seat or water temperature will simultaneously change that setting, so you don’t necessarily get to see what it was set to beforehand. In practice, this is a relatively minor annoyance since most people will choose their preferred temperatures and rarely adjust them afterward.

Those interface quirks aside, the X70 has been every bit as impressive in daily use as the T38P we tested previously. The automation works reliably, the bidet and dryer make the toilet more convenient, and the heated seat is one of those luxuries that quickly becomes difficult to give up.

**Meet the tester:** "With the older T38P still going strong in our powder room and the X70 now getting daily use in the primary bathroom, we’ve been impressed with both models. Going back to an ordinary cold toilet seat is getting increasingly difficult."—Paul Rankin, Product Reviews tester and writer

The first thing that stood out to us when we discovered the E16 was the wide variety of valuable features it offers in spite of its modest price. For example, its impressive host of smart features makes it easy to use and easier to clean. It uses motion-activated foot flushing as well as automatic flushing. If the smart toilet seat detects weight for more than 60 seconds, it flushes with a full flow of water; if it detects weight for less than 60 seconds, it performs a partial flush.

It also features a bidet with multiple flow settings, a remote control, auto deodorization, a warm-air dryer, automatic prewetting to make bowl cleaning easier, and more. One potential downside to this model is that, with a seat height under 17 inches, it is not ADA compliant. Overall, though, we like its floor-mounted design and elongated shape, as they result in a simple installation and a comfortable seat.

Featuring a specially designed 4-inch-wide seat that distributes your weight evenly over the increased space, Vovo’s Stylement smart bidet toilet is all about comfort. Seat heating, adjustable water temperatures, and a warm-air dryer round out the experience. But the Vovo also prioritizes cleanliness with a tankless system and built-in ultraviolet (UV) LED sterilizer that automatically disinfects the bowl.

This Vovo smart toilet also features auto deodorization, a touchless auto-open and auto-close seat, a remote control, and a power-save mode. It has a multisetting bidet and automatic flushing that adjusts water volume based on time seated on the toilet. Just be aware that although this toilet’s seat height is 17.5 inches, it is not listed as ADA compliant.

The Fine Fixtures Aqueous toilet and bidet is a high-tech option that’s ideal for either a bathroom remodel or a brand-new build. The kit features a wall-mounted smart toilet and a wall-carrier system that installs into the wall framing. This mounting system looks great, saves space, and makes the floor easier to clean and keep hygienic—all perks that we think anyone would appreciate in a smart toilet.

This kit from Fine Fixtures has ample smart features as well, including a heated soft-close seat, adjustable water temperature and pressure, a warm-air dryer, and a built-in LED night light. It also features a remote control for easy use, an automatic toilet-flusher function, and a bidet that’s both detachable and self-cleaning. In our opinion, the biggest drawback to this wall-hung smart toilet is that the installer will have to cut the drywall to install the carrier and then repipe the drain into the wall, so it’s best for new builds or remodels.

The Woodbridge B0970S smart bidet toilet features an ADA-compliant design that is also sleek and rich in features. This model’s seat height is 17.3 inches, making it easy to get on and off. It’s also tankless, which means there isn’t a large hump at the back of the toilet. The result is a streamlined and safe design.

The B0970S features off-seat automatic flushing, which means it won’t start flushing until you are up and away from the toilet. It features a bidet with heated water, a heated toilet seat, a remote, warm-air drying, and plasma sterilization. It’s also a rounder elongated smart toilet, offering a wider seat for comfort while saving some floor space. It doesn’t have an auto-open and auto-close lid, however.

One of the greatest benefits of a smart toilet is the bidet, and the Eplo smart bidet toilet takes that seriously. The bidet function features several modes, including front wash, rear wash, mobile wash, hot and cold wash, as well as an air bubble mode for gentler cleaning. It also has an auto-wash self-cleaning mode and a UV sterilization light. The bidet detaches for deep cleaning as well.

This model has plenty of other features as well. It offers four flushing modes (off seat, kick, knob, remote) as well as a night light, warm-air drying, and auto deodorization. It’s not marked as ADA compliant, but the seat height does sit at 17 inches, which should accommodate many users.

## How We Chose the Best Smart Toilets

Choosing the best smart toilets was more challenging than you might think. We had already spoken with experts in the past for general guidance on toilet shopping; for example, we previously tapped Mitch Cameron, general manager of Greensboro, North Carolina-based [Go Green Plumbing, Heating, and Air](<https://gogreenplumb.com/>), for our guide on the [best toilets](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-toilet/>). We took his and other experts’ insights into account while doing our research.

Smart toilets are considerably more involved than traditional toilets, and because these fixtures are far more expensive than standard models, we wanted to make sure our recommendations offered meaningful value. We used our experience with smart-home technology and plumbing products to identify the features that matter most, including flushing performance, bidet functions, comfort features, cleaning functions, ease of operation, installation requirements, and overall value.

We then researched leading smart toilets and compared their features, prices, designs, installation requirements, and intended uses. For our latest update, we also installed and tested the Horow X70 in a primary bathroom, where we evaluated its installation process and used its automatic lid, flushing system, heated seat, bidet, dryer, deodorizer, foam function, remote, and other smart features firsthand. Our tester had also installed and reviewed Horow's T38P in 2025, which gave us a useful point of comparison for the newer model. We assigned each toilet an award based on the area where it stood out most.

## What to Consider When Choosing a Smart Toilet

The [smart toilet trend](<https://www.bobvila.com/interior/smart-toilet-trend/>) is in full swing, but as is the case with all smart-home devices, there are quite a few things to consider when shopping for the right model for your home. Below are some of the most important things to keep in mind when shopping for these intelligent loos.

### Size and Shape

Smart toilets are often a bit larger than their less tech-inspired counterparts. After all, they have to serve the basic functions while integrating technology, fans, pumps, motors, and other equipment. Measure your bathroom space to ensure the unit you’re considering will fit before buying. If there isn’t much space between the current toilet’s tank and the wall behind it, a smart toilet might not be in the cards.

Next, consider the toilet’s shape. There are two basic shapes: elongated and round. This refers to the shape of the bowl or the place the user sits. Many folks prefer the comfort of elongated toilets, but if space is an issue and you want a low-profile toilet, round toilets are typically more compact. Cameron says it’s important to consider the available space in the bathroom when choosing one. “If I chose an elongated toilet in my bathroom, I’d probably have to step over it to get into my shower,” he says.

There’s one more important point to consider: accessibility. Many smart toilets are ADA height, which means the [toilet seat](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-toilet-seat/>) is between 17 and 19 inches from the floor. This allows older folks, people with disabilities, or those with bad knees to get on and off the toilet more easily.

### Features

This is where things get really fun. There are so many different features that can make a toilet “smart.”

- **Lighting:** Many smart toilets have lighting features. Some light the room, others light the bowl, and many have night lights.
- **Built-in bidets:** Folks who’d like to save on toilet paper or prefer a more complete and frictionless cleansing experience may opt for a smart toilet with a [bidet](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-bidet/>). These toilets provide a jet of water that cleanses the user’s bottom after they use the toilet.
- **Drying:** Rather than walking around with a soggy bottom, look for a unit with a drying feature. These toilets blow warm air at the derriere, providing a drying effect after using a bidet.
- **Self-cleaning:** Hate cleaning the toilet? Try a smart toilet with self-cleaning features. These toilets maintain themselves (to a degree), requiring less frequent deep cleaning.
- **Heated seats:** Sitting on a cold seat is rarely a pleasant experience, and some toilets have [heated seats](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-heated-toilet-seat/>) to keep things toasty.
- **Automatic toilet seats:** Smart toilets with automatic toilet seats can lift or lower the seat on their own.
- **Energy-efficient flushing:** There are models that will [dual flush](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-dual-flush-toilet/>) using just 1.28 gallons of water or less for solids and under 1.12 gallons for liquids, while standard toilets often flush at the maximum volume allowed of 1.6 gallons per flush.
- **Deodorizing:** Rather than using a can of artificial air freshener, many units have air freshening features to deodorize the air and keep the bathroom smelling fresh.
- **Remote controls:** Some units feature remote controls. You can adjust settings and activate features from a handheld device.
- **App control:** Smart toilets with app features allow you to control your toilets from your mobile device. You can adjust automatic settings and set schedules that tailor your toilet’s functions to your preferences.
- **Voice control:** Some of the most advanced smart toilets can operate using voice commands. You simply give the toilet the automatic function you’d like activated, and the toilet abides. This can be a truly hands-free experience, but it will come at a cost.

### Installation

![The Horow X70 Smart Toile with a towel around the base during installation](<https://www.bobvila.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Horow-X70-Smart-Toilet_04.jpeg>)
*Photo: Paul Rankin for BobVila.com*

Possibly the trickiest part of introducing a smart toilet into a home and its residents’ routines is installation. This takes some consideration, and possibly the help of a few professional tradespeople. Note that [toilet replacement costs](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/cost-to-replace-toilet>) go up according to the number of modifications necessary.

Smart toilets don’t run on gas (bathroom humor), but they do require electricity. This means they require an outlet within roughly 4 feet of the toilet, but ideally, right behind it. Most homes won’t have an outlet in this location, so an electrician will have to install one.

Some units install on standard floor flanges, but some manufacturers may have different requirements. For instance, a standard toilet sits on a 12-inch rough-in, meaning the drain's center is 12 inches from the wall. Most smart toilets adhere to this same specification, but to ensure a proper fit, check the manufacturer’s specifications before purchasing. Also, [different types of toilets](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/types-of-toilets/>) might be able to mount to the wall using a wall carrier bracket. Though not as common, wall-mounted toilets are increasing in popularity. “The main thing here is you want to make sure it matches the other fixtures in your bathroom,” Cameron says.

Smart toilets also use standard supply valves. However, depending on the toilet's size, the drain and supply line may need to be moved. If that’s the case, the project will require a plumber.

That’s a lot of lowdown on smart toilets, but there might still be some questions that need flushing out.
