When I saw the Hedgehog Jet the first time, I wondered why anyone would want a tiny leaf blower, and I was curious if it actually produced enough airflow to be useful. Winter sports enthusiasts may be familiar with the Norway-based [Hedgehog Dryer](<https://go.skimresources.com/?id=138113X1700762&url=https%3A%2F%2Fus.hedgehogdryer.com%2F&xcust=BV>) company, which produces well-known drying equipment for boots and clothing. Its new [Hedgehog Jet 500-Watt Ultra Blower](<https://go.skimresources.com/?id=138113X1700762&url=https%3A%2F%2Fus.hedgehogdryer.com%2Fproducts%2Fhedgehog-jet&xcust=BV>) is a cordless blower designed to help with drying, cleanup, and other jobs that call for strong, targeted airflow. I decided to test it on cleanup duty in and around my house and workshop.

The Hedgehog Jet has a sleek black aluminum-alloy housing that looks like it could have been designed by Apple. It measures 8.7 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide by 4.1 inches deep and weighs just 1.5 pounds. It’s small enough to store on a shelf or in a drawer, where a large leaf blower would not fit.

The unit has four power settings: low, medium, high, and turbo. The product literature claims that it creates a top air speed of 162 miles per hour with air pressure up to 7.8 pounds per square inch. The built-in 15-amp-hour lithium-ion battery pack delivers up to 30 minutes of runtime per charge. It charges via a USB-C port in the handle. The kit includes a drawstring storage bag and 3 detailing brushes.

I tested the [Hedgehog Jet](<https://go.skimresources.com/?id=138113X1700762&url=https%3A%2F%2Fus.hedgehogdryer.com%2Fproducts%2Fhedgehog-jet&xcust=BV>) on different indoor and outdoor messes at home. To me, its most unique aspects were its small size and its surprisingly strong blow force. Although it’s not much larger than a can of compressed air, it actually produces airflow equivalent to some full-size handheld leaf blowers. That narrow air column (the nozzle opening measures 1.2 inches in diameter) offers excellent control in confined spaces. I used it to clear leaves and bird feeder debris from my front entry and back deck, and to blow dust off of windowsills.

The size and power combination also made it the ideal tool for blowing dust and dirt from indoor areas that are difficult to reach with a broom or vacuum cleaner. It did a good job of blowing out the dust buildup in my tower fan, and I found it especially helpful for cleaning off the workbench. It also did a nice job pushing dirt out from beneath and behind stationary tools and appliances without blasting a mess all over the place.

Admittedly, the [Hedgehog Jet](<https://go.skimresources.com/?id=138113X1700762&url=https%3A%2F%2Fus.hedgehogdryer.com%2Fproducts%2Fhedgehog-jet&xcust=BV>) costs about as much as a full-size leaf blower, and it would take quite a bit longer to blow grass clippings off the driveway or clean up fallen leaves. However, I look at it as a different kind of tool that fills a unique niche. Its compact size makes it an ideal tool for RVing or car camping, where it can clear away leaves and twigs from the campsite, clear the day’s dust and grit out of the camper or tent, and help start the campfire in record time. For everyday use, I’ll be keeping it close at hand for cleaning up small messes without having to pull out the big leaf blower.
