Whether you’re short on backyard space, headed out on a weekend camping trip, or need to feed a few tailgaters before the big game, having a high-quality portable [grill](<https://www.bobvila.com/category/grills/>) is always a good idea. Yes, they have less cooking surface space than their full-size cousins, but many of these handy little cookers still put out excellent food.

Right as we wrapped up our tests on a group of the [best portable grills of 2026](<https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-portable-grill/>), the Monument Grills G22 showed up, so we put it through the same paces as the others to see how it stacked up. In the end, its 15,000-BTU output, two independently controlled burners, and glass viewing window earned high marks. Read on to see how it performed in our tests and whether it’s worth a spot on your picnic table.

##

- **Compact and powerful.** The Monument Grills G22 offers 15,000 BTUs with two burners, outperforming many portable grills.
- **Easy setup.** Simple assembly with just leg attachment, making it user-friendly.
- **Efficient heating.** Reaches 450°F quickly, with a peak of 800°F, ensuring excellent searing.
- **Great value.** Durable materials and performance make it a top choice for portable grilling.

**Bottom line:** The Monument Grills G22 combines compact design with powerful performance, making it an excellent choice for portable grilling enthusiasts.

## Setup and Features

In my [review of the Mesa 415BZ](<https://www.bobvila.com/reviews/monument-grills-mesa-415bz-review/>), a full-size model from the same brand, my biggest complaint was the assembly process, which took me a couple of hours. So when the G22 arrived and all I had to do was attach the legs, I was incredibly happy. After that, carrying the 32-pound unit out to the deck was simple enough, though slightly awkward to get my arms around by myself. Calling in a helper and securing the built-in lid locks alleviated my struggle, and we were ready to attach to our 20-pound propane tank and start cooking (it also works with 1-pound green grenades with an [adapter](<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084R99B9K>)).

In place on our deck, the bright, attractive stainless steel looked great with our yard’s green grass in the background. On the inside, the [G22](<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPY691N5/?tag=monument-grills-g22-portable-grill-review-20>) features 200 square inches across its heavy-duty 304 stainless steel grates (enough for 10 burgers), with durable steel flame tamers underneath. There are two independently controlled burners, which put out 15,000 BTUs of heat—almost double that of one of our team’s favorite models, the [Weber Q1200](<https://lowes.sjv.io/c/264145/897039/12374?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lowes.com%2Fpd%2FWeber-Q-1200-Black-Cast-Aluminum-8-500-BTU-189-sq-in-Portable-Gas-Grill%2F50330263&subId1=BV>) (8,500 BTUs).

## Performance and Value

One of my favorite things about the [Monument Grills G22](<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPY691N5/?tag=monument-grills-g22-portable-grill-review-20>) was how quickly it gets hot. Before we had our veggies chopped and chicken out of the marinade, it was already climbing above 450 degrees Fahrenheit and ready for food. Once our fare was in place, we were able to leave the lid closed and watch the cooking process through the Clearview tempered glass window, which allowed the internal temp to climb even higher rather than dropping as it would have had we opened the lid.

Normally, this is where I’d talk about a product’s downsides—such as, it got to 500 degrees Fahrenheit but not any hotter—but I can’t really think of any for the G22. In fact, it was so powerful that we turned both burners down during cooking and still ended up with chicken and veggies that had nice sear marks and absolutely delicious flavor. We even performed a separate test to see just how hot it would get, and after 10 minutes on high with the lid closed, it was a mind-boggling 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Considering the durable materials, dual-burner layout, and reasonable price, I’d be very surprised if anyone in the portable propane grill market wasn’t happy with the Monument G22.
