Having used dozens of different gas chainsaws at home and at work since the mid-90s, I’ve come to value reliable starting, cutting power, and build quality above all else. When comfort and convenience features are added to a good saw, it’s like icing on a cake—after all, I’m not getting any younger. This sweet little Stihl chainsaw is suitable for medium-duty cutting tasks that homeowners typically encounter. The starting system worked perfectly, but felt much different from a typical recoil. There was almost no resistance on the cord until the spring gained tension about two-thirds of the way through the pull, and then suddenly released energy to turn the engine. I liked it after I got a feel for it. I also liked that the auto-return control arm was all encompassing: choke/run/off all in one place. In action, the [MS182 C-BE chainsaw]() worked fast and efficiently. Even though it has a modest engine size, the skinny bar and chain allowed it to cut fast. That combination also gave it good fuel efficiency too—a tank of fuel lasted an hour and a half on average. The chain held its sharpness pretty well, but I touched it up with a file every time I stopped to refuel. I liked that I could adjust the chain and fill the tanks without a scrench, and that the chain adjustments stayed put (unlike some other “tool-free” chain adjusters I’ve used). ## Should you buy the Stihl MS 182 C-BE?
