I installed a full set of X-Sense smoke and carbon monoxide alarms throughout my home and used them as my primary detectors for about two months. Testing took place in my own home in Florida, where these replaced older builder-grade units. While this isn’t the most exciting category to review, it’s one of the most important. These home safety alarms delivered exactly what I wanted: dependable performance, simple setup, and a few thoughtful features that improve day-to-day use.

Installation of the X-Sense Smoke Alarm

Installation was about as simple as it gets. Each X-Sense alarm mounts to a circular bracket that screws into the ceiling, and the unit twists into place with a quick lock. Because these are battery-powered, there’s no wiring involved, which makes them ideal for quick upgrades or older homes. The 10-year sealed battery is a major plus, eliminating the need for constant battery swaps and the inevitable low-battery chirp in the middle of the night.

Interconnect Feature

The standout feature is the ability to interconnect multiple alarms. I linked six units across my home in just a few minutes using a simple button sequence. Once connected, if one alarm detects smoke or carbon monoxide, they all sound. That added layer of whole-home awareness is a meaningful safety improvement, especially in larger homes or multi-bedroom layouts.

Performance

In real-world use, the smoke detectors performed exactly as expected. They’re loud, with a sharp, high-pitched tone that immediately grabs your attention. During a few cooking mishaps, they triggered quickly, and I appreciated the built-in silence button. Pressing it enables hush mode, which pauses the alarm for up to 9 minutes. This comes in handy when there’s a little bit of smoke, but helpful for minor smoke without fully disabling the unit. If smoke levels are too high, the alarm won’t silence, which adds an extra layer of safety.

There’s nothing flashy here, and that’s exactly the point. These alarms combine smoke and carbon monoxide detection, offer long battery life, and add interconnectivity that enhances safety without adding complexity. If you’re upgrading older detectors or installing new ones, this is an easy, worthwhile choice that should provide peace of mind for years.
