1 / Prep The better the wood prep, the better the final result. Minwax Preparation products are the first step to ensure your wood surfaces show their most beautiful colors and smoothest finishes. Start with Minwax Pre-Stain to prevent streaks and blotches by penetrating the wood to promote uniform acceptance of oil-based stains and helps control the effects of grain raise.	2 / Stain Apply Minwax Wood Finish stain to bare wood surfaces following label directions. Surface must be dry and free of wax, grease, polish, any foreign matter or old finishes in poor condition. Sand to a smooth, uniform surface and remove dust. Use a clean cloth, wood stain brush or foam applicator and apply in the direction of the grain. Wait 5-15 minutes and wipe away in the direction of the grain. Let dry completely.	3 / Protect Stir well before and regularly during use. Do not shake. Apply a thin coat of Minwax Polyurethane Protective Finish. Apply in one direction with the grain. Do not over-brush. Let dry at least 2 hours then sand with very fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion of additional coats. Remove all dust.

It's more charcoal grey than black, but I knew this going in and prepped my piece with two coats of block-printing ink diluted with water (you can also use india ink). Two coats of true black stain on top of that resulted in about as jet-black a stain as I could ever hope to accomplish. Looks like shoe polish (hey, that gives me an idea!)

So when I bought this I didn't realize it was for Interior wood but it is oil based so I used it on my privacy fence out side the stain looks really good after I stained it I put 2 coats of polyurethane oil based exterior UV and water protection on it I really like how it came out I just hope it stands up to the sun not sure how Interior stain will work but if it gives me 3 to 5 years I will be happy and will try it again I guess this summer will be the test. if it works well I will update this post
