Recycling a Hardwood Floor

Project: Ranch Expansion, Episode 18, Part 3

The farmer's porch ceiling is assembled with V-groove pine, and the hardwood flooring from the kitchen is recycled in the living room. Bob visits an exciting new kind of urban renewal project-- a grassroots development corporation, Nuestra Comunidad, which is converting an old abandoned building into single-occupancy housing for low-income and homeless people.

Part 3: Recycling a Hardwood Floor
Flooring contractor Leo Boudreau shows Bob how to recycle hardwood flooring. First, the floor must be salvaged. A pry bar is used to lift and remove the wood, piece by piece. Then the old flooring is installed just as if it were new material.
Bob takes on the expansion of a 35 year-old ranch house in Wayland, MA. With an eye on the budget, projects include European kitchen cabinets, a state-of-the-art closet system for the master bedroom, custom built-in bookshelves, an eye-catching fan detail on the front fa├žade, and a private deck off the master bedroom.
