Is vinyl the way to go?
What about companies? I can get two Viking doors for the price of an Andersen. Are Viking windows decent?
Also, does anyone know any good installation links and/or review sites?

Just an opinion, but, I would never recommend a sliding door to anyone. I have yet to come accross one that did not eventually leak air. Some sooner than others. Have you considered a French door?
For the other part- Viking???????? That's a new one. Always remember, in windows and doors, you get what you pay for. One of the few areas in life where cost = quality.......
