I have a rotten smell that is coming from my dish washer. It seems fine just after the dish washer is run but after it sits for awhile there is a foul smell.

Sometimes the water backs up a little in the dish washer after I run water in the kitchen sink. The smell is often there regardless of whether there is water at the bottem of the dishwasher or not.

The water in the kitchen sink seems to drain just fine. There is also a garbage diposal attached to the kitchen sink.

Can you help me please?! We've been in this 30 year old house just under a year and have been trying to deal with this and other quirky problems.

Thank you!!

Take a cup of white vinigar full strength and pour it into the bottom of the dishwasher. Let it sit there for at least an hour. Then run it without any dishes. It should do the trick.

Also, there should always be water in the trap at the bottom of the dishwasher. If is is dry than you definately have a problem.
